Participation in sport has never been more important and all over Ireland school and club teams are playing finals, blitzes and other big events every weekend at this time of year and over the next few months. In recent years vocal supporters wearing their team colours have become the norm at school and underage matches.

Ireland’s most popular garden games

At this time of year a lot of people are looking at the outdoors and thinking "what can I do with family/friends or children to have some fun out there"? Despite the run of bad summers just gone and the late arrival of this one garden games are increasing in popularity.

 

At TheBigParty.ie we noticed this trend as people who were planning communion and birthday parties or simply having people around for a barbeque, emailed us looking for activities to make the event as enjoyable as possible for everyone.

 

The big sellers are the old favourite games such as croquet, chess, garden quoits and boules. The next popular games are puzzle style games namely Japlonk and Crossword Connect. Another big sellers were Sports Day Sets and Compendium of games, where you get more games in one box for very competitive price.  School sports days are also among the many reasons customers are buying these sports sets.

 

However the number one seller and Ireland’s favourite game is the Rounders Set. A bit of competition with a ball still seems to be many peoples idea of fun in the garden, park or beach.

Ireland’s most popular costumes

As I was looking through our recent fancy dress costume orders at thebigparty.ie I thought it was a good idea to see what was selling well in 2012. The trend in costume sales remains very positive despite the recession. Up to quite recently most costumes were sold in September and October for Halloween dress up parties but now fancy dress costumes in Ireland sell for a variety of occasions every month of the year.

 

What are the main occasions? Nativity is a big one for the kid’s costumes as well as the cartoon and movie characters. For men, stag costumes and funny costumes are the big sellers. Men go for the costumes that are pre-packaged with everything included and usually one size fits all. Women will be more likely to look at the wide variety of costume accessories such as wigs, make up etc.

Despite the sales increase in men’s costumes, it remains women’s costumes that are the biggest sellers.

So far in 2013 I would calculate our top five categories as follows:

·         Burlesque costumes

·         Sexy costumes such as Nun's costumes, Jesterina & Flirty Devil costumes

·         Smurf costumes

·         Pirate's fancy dress

·         Army costumes

Eyemasks, boas and wigs are a definite top among the accessories. Closer to Halloween we will do a list of the most sought after costumes for that season.
